Event: Last Call at Glencairn Museum
Venue: Glencairn Museum
Rating: 5 out of 5 hands
Durnan has closed the Yawning Portal Tavern and has mysteriously disappeared back down the well into the dungeons of Undermountain. His old adventuring companion Mirt has put down his tankard and taken up his sword to find him, but he can’t do it alone. Adventurers gather from afar to answer his call and rescue one of the city’s most iconic heroes. Will YOU join them?
For those unfamiliar, a Dungeons and Dragons Epic event is an event where multiple groups/tables of players are all participating in the same story at the same time, where one group’s actions can have an effect on the other groups at the event.
This particular Epic event was held at Glencairn Museum, an actual castle. So the chance to play D&D in a real castle was a big draw for people in the area. On top of that, I felt that this particular Epic was the best one I’d participated in so far. In keeping with the season 8 Adventurer’s League theme, there seemed to be an emphasis on role-playing, with the real possibility of not having a combat encounter until the very end. While that’s not how my story went, I really appreciated that it was possible.
Another fun thing about an Epic is the wandering characters. In this particular event, there was an adversarial character doing their best to prevent the players from succeeding. A lot of fun was had by all trying to do what was needed to be done without drawing her attention, or even finding ways to deceive her.
Overall, the event was a blast. Well organized, well run and in an amazing setting!
